Ionia Daily Sentinel Standard, 3 Feb 1920

Joel Whitlock, a pioneer of Orange township, died early Saturday morning after a
[unreadable] illness.  He was 87 years of age and had been a resident of this
part of the country since the early ‘60’s when he came from New York state. 
Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon.

[Transcriber’s note:  There is a notation on the obituary card that he was
buried in Portland cemetery.]
