Lyons Herald, 14 Aug 1919

Mrs. Nelson Whitmore died at her home in this village Thursday evening, August 
7.  Alpha Ritenberg was born in Ontario, Canada, Nov. 29, 1859.  She came with 
her father’s family to Ionia county in 1880.  On November 23, 1882, she was 
married to Nelson Whitmore.  They lived for some years on a farm south of 
Ionia, but for 12 years have lived in Lyons.

One son was born to them, Willis Whitmore, who lived near Lyons.  A nephew, 
Delbert Ritenberg, was brought up by them.  Besides these and her husband, she 
leaves four brothers, Edward and Charles Ritenberg of Lyons, James R. Ritenberg 
of Fowler and Ira L. Ritenberg of Lake Odessa.  For the past three years she 
has been in poor health.  In her youth she united with the Methodist church in 
Canada.

Funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon conducted by Rev. 
Geo. A. Brown and burial was in the Balcom cemetery.
