ELIAS): Unnamed, undated newspaper obituary: "Mary Jane Whitmore, daughter of Ira and Rachel Chilson, was born in Ibera, Morrow County, Ohio, July 30, 1850. She was the third of a family of five children having one brother and three sisters, Nathan Chilson, the brother, now the only surviving member of the family. The Chilson family moved to Indiana, locating near Kendallville, where Mary Jane in a home of Christian invfironment, grew to womanhood, a faithful and loving daughter. March 22, 1868, she was married to Elias Whitmore, establishing the new home near her parents. Their union was blessed by two daughters, Emma Orvilla and Sarah Adelaide, now Mrs. William Bennett and Mrs. John Young. In 1870 Elias Whitmore and wife moved to Ionia, later locating at the present home. In early life she was converted and united with the United Brethren church. After removing to this place she became a member of the Wesleyan Methodist church where she found peace and comfort in endeavoring to do the will of the Master. She passed from earth to a life triumphant April 15, which is the reward of the faithful. She leaves to mourn their loss, a loving companion, two daughters with husbands, four grandsons, a brother, other relatives and many sorrowing neighbors and friends. The funeral was held at the West Berlin W. M. church Monday at 10:30, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Arvison. Burial in Balcom cemetery."
