Bennett lib@dogsbark.com June 5, 2010, 3:21 am Ionia Sentinel Standard WHITMORE, ELIAS: IONIA SENTINEL STANDARD, MI, 12-27-1932, front page: Elias Whitmore, who would be 86 years of age January 1, had he lived, died Monday night at 6:30 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Bennett, of Berlin, where he had been because of illness since November. Funeral services will be from the home of the daughter Thursday afternoon. Mr. Whitmore was born in New York; at the age of two he accompanied his parents to Ohio. When 19 years of age he went to Indiana to live. While there he met Miss Mary Jane Chilson whom he married in March, 1868. She died about 12 years ago. They moved to Michigan where their oldest daughter was born. Later they returned to Indiana, their youngest daughter being born there. In 1879, they returned to Michigan and for fifty-three years he had lived on the same farm in Berlin township. The two daughters, Mrs. William Bennett and Mrs. John Young survive. He also leaves five grandchildren and a brother, Roy, of Lyons." These were held at the daughter's home at 1:15 and at the Wesleyan Methodist church at 2 o'clock with a large number in attendance. There were many flowers. Relatives, Ray Youngs, Harold Bennett, Seigel W. Bennett, Harold J. Bennett, Miles E. Bennett, and William Youngs, served as bearers and Mrs. Fred Parr and Mrs. Peter Gallagher provided the music."
