WHITMORE, HIRAM E., JR.:
   Portland Observer, 16 Mar 1939:  "Pneumonia continued to take its toll this
week, with Hiram Whitmore, 76, of Canal street succumbing to the malady Friday
afternoon. He was the third member of the Whitmore family to die recently, the
others being his mother in January and his brother, George, last week. 
   Services were held at the home Sunday, with burial in Portland. Survivors
include the widow, the former Miss Ida Ritenberg, and two children, Mrs. Allen
Rader of Portland and Elmer Whitmore of Lansing. There are five brothers,
William of Ionia, Charles of White Cloud, Samuel and Bert of California, and
Fred of South Haven."
