The Ionia Standard, Friday, May 14, 1897
John F. Whitmyer, the well known fruit grower, died at 7:30 Tuesday night 
after a prolonged illness.  His age was only 36.  He leaves a wife and three 
children—two boys and one girl.  Funeral will be held at the family residence, 
two miles east of city, on Friday, at 2 p.m.; services by Rev. J. T. Oxtoby, 
D.D., and under the auspices of Ionia camp No. 1655, Modern Woodmen of 
America, in which order deceased carried insurance for $2,000.  His mother 
arrived here from her home in Middlebury, Ind., two or three days ago.
