Portland Weekly Observer, 14 Jan 1879

Mr. Watson C. Whitney of this village died on Friday morning last, after an 
illness of about two weeks, although his health has been poor for two or three 
years.  His funeral took place from the Congregational church on Sunday 
afternoon, and was largely attended.  The services were conducted by the 
Masonic Lodge of this place, of which he was a member.
