Ionia Standard, 27 May 1904

Andrew J. Whitney, a prominent farmer of Ronald, where he has been a resident 40 
years, dropped dead about 6 o’clock Monday evening, while in the field.  He had 
been warned by his physician against any work or unusual exercise, and had obeyed 
as well as a man of active habits usually does; but he went into the field to 
watch his man plow, and took hold to show him how.  He died at the plow.  The 
trouble was heart disease.  His age was 74, and he leaves a wife and four 
children.  Funeral at family residence on Thursday morning at 10:30.  Interment 
in North Plains cemetery.
