Claud was the son of the late George W. Whitney and the family for many years lived in the house now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Edward Meyers, one block north of St. Patrick church. News of Mr. Whitney’s death was received in a telegram by Dr. Austin Hart, former Portland resident, who now resides on a farm near Grand Ledge. Dr. Hart’s wife, who died last September, was a sister of Mr. Whitney. During his youthful days Mr. Whitney learned the printer’s trade in Portland and followed it for many years. He was a cornetist of rare ability and used to play in the Portland band. He was about 63 years old. No details of his death were given in the telegram and Mr. Hart had not previously been notified of his illness. Mr. Whitney is survived by his widow, who maiden name was Faye Vonstine, formerly of Fort Dodge, Ia., and one son, Robert, who is 22 years of age.
