The Ionia Daily Standard, Wednesday, September 6, 1916

Mrs. Mary J. Whitney, 77 years old, died at 7:00 o’clock Tuesday night at her 
home on West Main street.  She was the mother of Mrs. Emma Clark and Fred. J. 
Whitney, both of this city, and the widow of George F. Whitney, who died in 
1905.  She also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Dora Adams of Sheridan, Wyoming, 
Mrs. Julia C. Dennis of Grand Rapids, Wis., and Mrs. Bessie Gilson of Grand 
Rapids, Michigan.  Mr. and Mrs. Whitney were pioneer residents of Ionia.  The 
funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the residence.  
Friends are asked to omit flowers.
