Whitney were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Fitzjohn funeral home. There was a large attendance both from town and rural community and many beautiful flowers attested to the esteem in which he was held. The officiating clergyman was Rev. A. D. McLachlan of the Free Methodist church and he brought a message full of inspiration and comfort. Music was by Mrs. Thos. Rice, Edna Rowe, Erma Rowe and Allene Bouck. Bearers were Clifford Hopkins, Ray Doty, Forrest Sly, Milo Haney, Edward Jacoby and Claude Smith. Interment was in Greene cemetery. Those in attendance from away were Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Tyrrell, of Bowling Green, Ohio, uncle and aunt of the deceased; cousins, Mrs. And Mrs. Chas. Carpenter, of Bowling Green; his aunts, Mrs. Minnie Graham and Mrs. Donald Crane, of Mt. Pleasant; his grandmother, Mrs. Nellie Meyers, of the same place; his grandfather, Ezra Meyers, of Leslie, and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Whitney, and children, of Vestaburg. Harold Melvin Whitney was born April 14 near Remus. When he was eight months old his parents moved to Belding where he attended school and where he graduated in the class of 1943. He was interested in farming and stock raising and had already acquired some registered stock. In October he was taken with pleurisy and other complications which developed into tuberculosis. In the latter part of April he was taken to the sanitarium at Howell but the skill of physicians and the tender care of nurses could not suffice to save him and he passed away July 12, at 8:35 p.m. He leaves to mourn his parents, two brothers and a sister, other relatives and a host of friends. Harold was always kind and friendly in spirit, exemplary in his character, which won the respect and affection of all who knew him and who are much saddened at his passing while still in the prime of his youth.
