Whitney, 83, of 418 W. Pine street, Carson City, died Thursday, January 15th at the Carson City Hospital. She was born January 10, 1904, to Joseph and Cora (Bonnard) Whitney in Clarksville. A graduate of the Clarksville High School, Doris attended Central Michigan and received her teaching degree from Western. She taught in various schools over the years, including Woodland, Lyons, Coopersville and Ionia; as well as at Carson City-Crystal Area School, where she taught first grade from 1952 when she and her mother moved to Carson City. She retired in 1971. A member of the Clarksville Bible Church in Clarksville, she was very active in the Carson City United Methodist Church and its organizations. She was a member of the WCTU, and the Michigan Retired School Personnel. Survivors include several first cousins, a number of second and third cousins, and many, many “adopted” relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 17th from the Schnepp Funeral Home in Carson City with Rev. Ray Geienke officiating. Graveside services were held at the Clarksville cemetery at 4:30 p.m. with Rev. Pike of the Clarksville Bible Church in charge. Memorials may be sent to either the Carson City United Methodist Church or the Clarksville Bible Church.
