Mrs. Whitney died Monday evening, October 20 at the Carson City Hospital, where she had been since fracturing her hip October 5. She was born in Ohio, February 28, 1870 and came as a child with her parents to Grand Rapids, later living near Lowell and in South Boston township. December 2, 1902, she was married to Joseph Whitney who preceded her in death October 18th, 1909. Shye lived in Clarksville until 1941 when she moved to Woodland to live with her daughter, Miss Doris Whitney, who was a teacher there. They moved to Carson City in 1952. Surviving besides the daughter, Doris, are two half-sisters, Mrs. Martin Pell and Mrs. William Oppenneer, and one half-brother, William Cubbitt, all of Grand Rapids. Officiating at the service was Rev. H. James Birdsall, pastor of the Carson City Methodist Church, assisted by Rev. Don Mathis of the Clarksville church. Burial was in the Clarksville Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Beattie Funeral Home.
