Ionia Sentinel-Standard - Tues. Jan. 30, 1973

A former Ionia area resident, Mrs. Gertrude Edith Whorley, 82, died Monday 
morning at a convalescent home at Madison Heights.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:30 pm at Leddick funeral home. Rev 
George Chaffee of Easton United Methodist church will officiate and interment 
will be at Easton Cemetery.

Mrs. Whorley was born in Ionia, June 14, 1890, the daughter of Edeard and Edith 
Ayers Alling. She attended Ionia Schools.

She was married to Charles Whorley and they lived on a farm on Strong road 
several years before moving to Grand Rapids where they owned and operated a 
small grocery store on South Division near Cutlerville. 

He died several years ago and she made her home with a niece, Mrs. Earl 
Christensen at Troy until entering the convalescent home a few months ago.

She is survived in the Ionia area by nephews and cousins.
