Funeral Set for Former Ionia Dispatcher
John Wiechenthal was also a radio personality

Funeral arrangements fo a Grand Rapids radio personality and Ionia County 911
dispatcher, who was killed in a car crash days before Christmas, have been made.

According to Fox 17, a visitation for John Wiechenthal will be held Jan. 4 from 6
p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church in Wyoming.

A funeral service will be held Jan 5 at the same location at 11 a.m.

Wiechenthal, who was 39-years-old, leaves behind his wife Ranean Wiechenthal and
three children.

The crash occurred at about 2 p.m. on Kalamazoo Avenue, just South of 52nd street in
Kentwood on Dec. 21, according to WZZM 13.

A pickup truck rear ended a car, causing both vehicles to leave the road and hit
utility poles. Both drivers were taken to the hospital.

Police said one of the drivers was expected to survive, while the other driver, John
wiechenthal, was killed.

The radio station 93.7 B-93 posted a message on facebook about Wiechenthal's death,
which said he will be "greatly missed."

Ionia County Central Dispatch also posted a message on facebook about Wiechenthal's
death.

"John was a very important part of our operations and will be greatly missed by his
co-workers," the message posted by Ionia County Central dispatch states "John was our
first dispatcher to be recognized by Smart911 with a Smart Save for using that system to
save someone. John received this award two different times."
