Fred Wieland of near Elmdale, but at one time a resident of Campbell, on the farm bought of Mr. Ernsberter west of Lake Odessa, died at his home in Bowne township, February 10th. Mr. Wieland was particularly intricated in Church and Sunday School work and was practical in his religious views and life. The Church loses a worker and the community a friend and neighbor OBITUARY Fred Wieland was born in Bowne township, Kent Co.. Dec. 20, 1872, and departed this life Feb. 10th 1923 at the age of 50 years, 1 month, and 21 days. In the year of 1894 he was united in marriage with Mary Weaver of Campbell. To this union were born four children, namely, Ray of Grand Rapids, Charles of near the present home north of Freeport, Myrtle and Minnie at home. Besides rearing their own family, it can truly be said he opened his home of an orphan child, Fred Holswarth, who has now grown to manhood, and at the present are in the home, Howard and Donald Quets. About 19 years age he with his wife united with the Brethren Church near Elmdale in the faith he remained a faithful, devout Christian until the messenger called him from his earthly home to a home not made by hands, eternal in the heavens whose builder and maker is God. Besides the sorrowing family are left a sister, Mrs. Sarah Tischer, near Lake Odessa, one brother, Chris Wieland of Lowell, one aunt, Mrs. Martha Magesse of Marshall and a number of cousins, a large concourse of dear friends who will greatly miss him, especially in the church and Sunday school where he has been an earnest worker as long as health permitted. Mr. Wieland has been a sufferer from valvular heart trouble for years and for the last year had become very much afflicted and on January 28 became afflicted with malignant jaundice from which he gradually grew weaker and could no longer endure the complications. Thus the ending of another useful life which we can truly say the world was made better by his having been with us for a while at least.
