Wilbur, aged 71 years, took place at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Loyd E. Wilson, 204 W. High street, Saturday morning at about 6 o’clock. Death followed a long period of ill health, which had been serious for the past year. Mr. Wilbur was born in Hamilton, New York, on April 23, 1873, the only child of Gideon and Hannah Wilbur, and was graduated from Colgate university. Following the death of his father he and his mother came to this city and he became interested in the then Belding Shoe Company and was interested in that concern for several years. In 1898 he was united in marriage to Miss Laura Driese, of this city, and to this union were born two children, H. Burl, of Traverse City and Margaret, now Mrs. Loyd E. Wilson, of this city. Mrs. Wilbur passed away in 1909. Mr. Wilbur served as postmaster of this city for a period of more than eight years under the Coolidge and Hoover administrations. His appointment the local office coming after he had served for many years as a salesman in the employ of Morley Bros., a Saginaw hardware firm. Funeral services were held at the Fitzjohn funeral home Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock, with Rev. Thomas Rice, pastor of the Methodist church officiating, and the body was placed in a crypt of the mausoleum in River Ridge cemetery, to await burial later in the spring. Active bearers at the funeral were George Skellenger, Emil Ferick, Glenn Lambertson, Ambrose Spencer, Gus Schroeder and Alvin Davis, while honorary bearers were Newell Cole, Joseph Tupper, Ellis Ranney, Charles Davis, Elmer Cook and Robert Barron.
