Met Summons Bravely Passed Peacefully Away Monday Morning With Cheering Smiles and Tender Messages. The death of Laura Lenora Wilbur occurred at half past eight o’clock Monday morning at her late pleasant home on Washington street, she having failed rapidly since her return from the hospital in Grand Rapids last week. A few short months ago there was little thought that her life work would end so quickly. It was only last December the symptoms of the disease which carried her away developed causing alarm. Laura Lenora Driese was born in Michigan City, Ind., Nov. 10, 1874 and moved to this city with her parents twenty-eight years ago when at the age of seven years. She was a graduate of the class on ’90 and passed with high honors being one of fourteen classmates. After her graduation she was supply teacher in the high school for three months and also taught in the district school at Chadwick and Keene. Ten years ago she was married to Jesse G. Wilbur and two children were born to them, Burl aged 9 and Margaret Dorothy aged 7 years, who are by her untimely death bereft of a fond mother’s love and care. Mrs. Wilbur was the worthy matron of Doric Chapter, O. E. S. and attended the Grand Chapter as representative last October in Jackson. She was a member of the Congregational church and prominent in the social activities of the city, ever ready to do her part. During her sickness and in the hour of death she mete the inevitable bravely, with a cheerful smile for all her friends. Shortly before her departure she said with a pleasant smile: “I have got to leave you all, there is no need to cry, we will all be together again.” When her brother Henry came she threw her arms about him and said to those present “this is my big brother and a good one he is too.” Her passing words of cheer and sweet smiles recalls the words of Milton. “Death is the golden key that unlocks the palace of eternity; Death is the crown of life.” Amid a wealth of lovely flowers and floral pieces which surrounded the casket, the funeral services were held at the house Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. N. J. Myers, assisted by Rev. C. E.. Maxfield. Rev. Myers spoke appropriate words from the thought, “Her sun has gone down while it is yet day.” Mrs. J. E. Ferguson and Miss Florence Wagner sang and her remains were followed to River ridge cemetery where they were tenderly laid at rest to await the resurrection morn. Among the relatives in attendance from abroad were Henry Driese and wife, Detroit, Henry Burtz, wife and son, Walter Burtz and Mrs. Amelia Press of Michigan City, Ind., Mrs. Wm. Driese and daughter Gertrude of Blue Island, Ill., and Geo. M. Wilbur of Marysville, O.
