Wilcox, 84 years of age, who died at the University hospital in Ann Arbor Tuesday afternoon, June 8, at 1:15 o'clock after an illness of the past seven weeks, was brought back to Ionia for burial at Highland Park. He was staying at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Abbie Wilcox Pierce, in Ann Arbor when taken ill seven weeks ago, and was removed to the hospital only about 10 days ago. He was born on October 30, 1853 in Lorraine County, Ohio, and had lived in Ionia since 1908 when he came here from Belding where he had been residing for a short time. A carpenter by trade, he had worked continuously for the past 29 years at the state hospital here. His wife, Lizzie M. Wilcox, died in 1922. He was a member of the First Methodist church in Ionia, and of the Modern Woodmen of America. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Abbie Wilcox Pierce of Ann Arbor, Mrs. H.J. DeCoster of Grand Rapids, one sister, Mrs. Anna Gillford of York, Nebraska; three granddaughters, Miss Evelyn DeCoster of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Lester Fuite of Grand Haven, and Mrs. Elroy Ellison of Kalamazoo; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Anna Wilcox of Detroit and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church here Thursday afternoon, June 10, at 2 o'clock with Rev. M.W. Duffey officiating. Interment will be in the family lot at Highland Park cemetery. The body will lie at the church from 1:15 o'clock until time for the services at 2 o'clock Thursday. Thursday, June 10, 1937 Funeral services for Howard B. Wilcox, 84, who died at Ann Arbor on Tuesday afternoon, June 8, after an illness of the past seven weeks, were held from the Methodist Episcopal church in Ionia on Thursday afternoon, June 10 at 2 o'clock with Rev. Matthew W. Duffey officiating. Music for the services was by Chandler Haight, Sr., who sang, "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," and"Beautiful Isle of Somewhere". His accompanist was Ms. Lillian Ashdown Jennings. Bearers were Charles Bailey, Fred Moore, William Vandercoy, Alton McCracken, Brook Fuller and Spencer Beecher. Relatives attending from away were Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Pierce of Ann Arbor, Mrs. Anna Gifford of York, Nebraska, Mrs. Anna Wilcox of Detroit, H.I. DeCoster of Grand Rapids, Miss Evelyn DeCoster of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Lester Fuits of Grand Haven, Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Ellison of Kalamazoo, Mr. and Mrs Roy McDonald and family of Grand Rapids, L. G. Barnard of Ada, Mrs. M.J. Roberts and Mrs. Carl Kemp of Milan, Mrs. C.L. Beardslee and Mrs. Hettie Baker of Greenville, Mr. and Mrs. W.M.Boron and son Lewis of Langsburg, and Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Hudson and Mrs. Gildemeister of Belding.
