(Heath) 1906 DOD: Saturday, 5 May 1906 Belding News – Thursday, 10 May 1906 Mrs. Elvira H. Wilder, mother of W. A. Wilder and Mrs. T. Frank Ireland, and who for years has been a helpless invalid, died Saturday morning in the eightieth year of her age, passing peacefully from the earthly tenement of flesh into, the region beyond where no cares assail nor pains travail. The funeral services were held at the home of her son, W. A. Wilder, Rev. J. W. Sheehan having charge of the services and making a short but eloquent and sympathetic address. A quartette from the Baptist church choir sang appropriate heart-touching melodies in fitting manner. Interment was in Riverside cemetery. Following is a brief sketch of the life of decedent: Mrs. Elvira Heath was born in Heath, Mass., January 27, 1826, and died in Belding, Mich., May 5, 1906. She was a daughter of Horace and Anna C. Benton, who afterward moved to Shelburne Falls where she received her education. After finishing her course in the academy she taught school four years, after which she was married to Orrin Hewitt in 1849. To this union was given one son, George F. Hewitt, now of Boone, Iowa. After Mr. Hewitt’s death she came, with her parents, to Lee County, Ill., and in March, 1855, was married to Alfred L. Wilder of Sublette, Ill. To this union were born four children, W. A. Wilder, Mrs. T. Frank Ireland of this city, Arabella who died at four years of age, and R. A. Wilder whose home is in Osceola, Iowa. Her home was in Subletta, Ill, until coming to Belding, Mich., in 1889. For thirty-five years of her life she has been an invalid and since coming to Belding has been confined to her room a greater part of these years. Her husband, until his death, devoted his time exclusively to caring for her, and since he departed this life she has been tenderly cared for by other loving hands, until Saturday morning, May 5, 1906, when, at four o’clock she quietly passed away at the age of eighty years. She became a Christian in early life, uniting with the Baptist Church at the age of eleven and was a consistent member of that denomination until her death, having united with the Belding Baptist church by letter when she came to this city. She possessed a bright, happy nature, was a faithful wife, a loving mother and a kind neighbor. Until afflicted with disease she took an active part in church and Sabbath school work, always being counted upon as one to be depended on whenever or wherever duty called. Although it was hard for her to give up this active, stirring life, still she was resigned and cheerful during these last years, bowing submissively to the will of Him who “doeth all things well.” File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/w/wilder11173nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 3.3 Kb
