Most of his early life was spent at Big Rapids, Mich., with his parents. After his father’s death in 1893, he lived with his mother until her death in 1989. For several years previous to her death, his mother lived in Smyrna. For the last five years made his home with Mrs. Fred Purdy, three miles west of Smyrna. He had not had good health for several years and for the last eighteen months he sank rapidly, being confined to his bed the last three months. He leaves two aunts, the only surviving relatives. All that could be done by kind and loving friends to supply his every need and comfort was cheerfully done. He was a member of two fraternal orders, the Gleaners and the Maccabees. Many beautiful flowers bore evidence of the esteem in which he was held by his friends. The funeral took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Purdy on Tuesday, Dec. 29, the Rev. H. N. Spear of Belding preaching the funeral service. The burial was at Muir on Wednesday, Dec. 30. Loving friends from the lodges of which he was a member, and from the neighborhood accompanied the remains and attended the burial.
