The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, August 11, 1976


Walter G. Wiles, 76, Ionia, died Tuesday morning at Ionia County Memorial 
Hospital.  Mr. Wiles was born Aug. 23, 1899 in New Haven Township, Gratiot 
County.  He was a self-employed painter and was a member of the U.S. Army in 
France during World War I.  He married the former Ila Howay in 1919.  They 
lived in Ithaca until moving to Ionia in 1924.  She died Aug. 1, 1970.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Betty McNally, Fenwick, Mrs. Bird (Iris) 
Groom, Greenville; a son, Maynard, Ionia; a sister, Mrs. Beatrice Fortney, 
Ithaca; a step-brother, Percy Birch, Muskegon; 10 grandchildren and five great-
grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Leddick Funeral Home, Ionia, the Rev. 
Kenneth Harger of Shiloh Community Church officiating.  Interment will be in 
New Haven Center Cemetery.  The family will be at the funeral home to receive 
friends and relatives tonight from 7 to 9 and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to  9 
p.m.
