The Ionia Daily Sentinel, Thursday, December 26, 1940
Mrs. Bertha May Wilkes died Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the home of her son, Edgar 
Wilkes in Saranac.  She was born June 15, 1871, in Mecosta county, the 
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Brandow.  She lived her entire life in that 
county until 1937 when she came to Saranac to live with her son.  Her husband 
preceded her in death several years ago.  

Surviving are the son; two sisters, Mrs. Dora Gilhoe of Grand Rapids and Mrs. 
Lovena Underhill of Willingham, Washington; and three brothers, Andrew Brandow 
of Morley, Henry of Lakeview and John of Fremont.  

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. from the Free Methodist church 
in Greenville.  Rev. Mamie Clark will officiate and interment will be at 
Altona cemetery.  Bearers will be Charles O’Dell, Ivan Dann, Clayton Greenhoe 
and William O’Dell.  The body will be at the Sisson funeral home in Saranac 
until shortly before service time.
