Willard, eighty four, last Civil war veteran living in Ionia. Mr. Willard who had been in declining health the last seven years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Tomas Rich. Funeral services will be held Friday at two o’clock at the Boynton funeral home with interment in North Plains cemetery. He leaves three other children, Professor Chester E. Willard of Northwestern University, Eldon Willard and Mrs. William Moore, of this city. His death leaves only three members of the abandoned post, Captain E. E. Eyster of White Cloud, Fla., George Rector of Miami, Fla. and Lemuel Langley of the V.S.H. Grand Rapids. Born on a farm in North Plains township, he spent his entire life in the community. At the age of seventeen, he enlisted in the Twenty first Infantry at Flint. Less than two weeks ago, he attended the unveiling of the monument erected to honor his captain Belknap of his regiment.
