Orvil Willey’s parents were among the earliest settlers to locate in the south-east portion of Lyons township. All these years he has been a resident of Lyons with the exception of the years spent in the South, at the time of the Rebellion as one of the volunteers with the Union army. When a young man he was united in marriage to Miss Lucy Tremper and for a number of years owned and lived on the farm now owned by Mark W. Probart, located on section 35 of this township; it being the old Willey homestead. In the late seventies Mr. Willey disposed of this farm and came to the village of Lyons to live, owning and living in the house now belonging to H.M. Willitt. Early in 1900 he was bereaved by loss of his wife and companion, leaving him alone to mourn his loss, as there were no children. Soon after this Mr. Willey disposed of his property in Lyons, since which time he has resided for short periods of time in Ann Arbor, Lansing, and St. Johns, but has always claimed Lyons as his home. At the time of his death Mr. Wiley was 78 years, 6 months and ten days of age, and leaves to mourn his loss two nephews, Capt. Cordon Fay Willey of San Antonio, Texas, and L. O’Neil of Lyons. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. O’Neil, where he had been cared for and where he died. Rev. Geo. A. Brown conducted the services at the house, while the Masonic lodge of Lyons, of which deceased was a member, had charge of the services at the Lyons cemetery, where he was laid to rest in the family lot.
