Lyons Herald, 1 Mar 1901

Mrs. Emma J. Willey was born in Vermontville, Eaton County, Mich., March 28, 
1849.  died at Ann Arbor Rev. 16, 1901.  She was married to L.B. Willey, of 
Pewamo, on July 4th, 1866.  With the exception of a short residence at Lyons 
and Hubbardston she lived on a farm near Pewamo, and it was here as the devoted 
wife and mother that her life was spent.  She leaves two sons, Vernon J., now 
attending the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, and Fay, who is attending 
school at Lyons.  Mrs. Willey had realized for some time that her health was 
failing, but the real character of her trouble was not discovered until about 
January 25th of this year.  Upon consulting physicians both at Ionia and Ann 
Arbor all pronounced her trouble due to a fibroid tumor which was in an 
advanced stage of development.  An operation being advised she went to Ann 
Arbor for this purpose Feb. 5th.  The operation was performed at the private 
hospital Feb. 12, from which she never fully rallied.  The sad end came Feb. 16 
at 6:20 o’clock.  The remains were brought to Pewamo the following Monday by 
her husband and son Vernon.  The funeral took place from the Baptist church at 
Pewamo Feb. 19, at eleven o’clock, the Rev. W.R. Waters, of Mt. Morris, 
officiating.  The remains were taken to Lyons for burial.

The family and friends of the deceased feel that too much cannot be said for 
the loving kindness and sympathy of the Ladies L.A. of which the deceased was a 
member.  Everything was done by them that could be done to assist the bereaved 
family in their loss.

Of the members of her own family four brothers and three sisters survive her, 
Horace B. .Warner, of Challacombe, Ill, Asa J. and Charles J. and Mrs. James 
Sackett, of Vermontville, Wm. W. of Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. Hattie Rosekrans, 
of Auburn, Mich and Luna A. Warner, of Saginaw, Mich.
