Ionia Sentinel Standard - Thursday, 9 November 1950

William D. Bennett, 81, pioneer Berlin Township farmer, died at his farmhome 
Thursday at 7 a.m. after being ill for six months.  He had been in failing 
health for one year.  He was born in Berlin Township Nov. 27, 1869, the son of 
Miles and Sophia Bennett.  He lived his entire life in that community.  Mr. 
Bennett was married to the former Orvilla Whitmore of Berlin Township on July 
1, 1890, by the Rev. L. O. Bonnig.  She died in August, 1934.  He was active 
in politics and was a staunch Republican.  He was supervisor of Berlin 
Township from 1907-1911 and has held all township offices except clerk.  His 
son, Harold is Berlin township supervisor at present.

Surviving are four sons, George, Seigel, Miles and Harold, all of Berlin 
Township; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother, 
Charles of Orange; and sister Mrs. Ida Tew, of Lake Odessa.

Funeral services will be held from the farmhome Saturday at 2:30 pm.  
Interment will be in Balcom cemetery.
