She was born on February 27th 1945 in Harrisburg, PA to Robert Mulligan Murphy and Mildred Tilson Long. Saundra was a gifted and extremely intelligent woman and excelled in every aspect of educating herself on her path of life. Saundra attended Portage Schools in Kalamazoo, MI and graduated from Godwin Heights High School in Grand Rapids, MI in 1976. She continued her education and graduated with honors from Lakewood Adult Skills Center in 1981, graduated from the Michigan Department of Corrections and became a Prison guard at the Michigan Reformatory in Ionia, MI in 1986. She graduated with Honors from the National Education Center with a degree in Electronics and Computer engineering with a 4.0 in 1996, graduated with honors as valedictorian of her class with a 4.0 from Davenport Business College with a degree in Business Management. Saundra was a charter member of the National Management Association, attended the graduate school of business administration at Michigan State University graduating in 1984. Saundra met many challenges in her life and yet touched so many people. Saundra was particularly proud of her American Indian heritage and has traced her family ancestry back hundreds of years. She had a deep pride in her country and the people that she knew who served in the Military. Her cup runs over with pride of her sons and grandchildren with all of their success and always greeted people with excitement and made everyone feel special. Saundra was preceded in death by her father, Robert; and her mother, Mildred (Millie). Saundra is survived by her civil union husband and caretaker, Richard Hoenecke of Clarksville, MI; sons, Brian C. McKay and Carmen McKay of Las Vegas, NV, Timothy W. (Martha) McKay of Freeport, MI; grandchildren, Robert “Buddy” Huber III of Las Vegas, NV, Dylan W. McKay of Hastings, MI, Dallas K. McKay of Hastings MI, Joshua Garcia of Battle Creek, MI, Tiffany Smith of Freeport, MI, and Kenneth Smith of Freeport, MI; great-granddaughter, Amelia Grace Garcia of Battle Creek, MI; beloved extended family, David L. McKay Sr of Otsego, MI, Kathy (Mckay) Kile and Pete Kile of Mountain Home, AR, Gloria (McKay) Tackett of Galesburg, MI, Deb McKay of San Franciso, CA, David McKay Jr of Otsego, MI; along with countless friends, neighbors, church members, and acquaintances whose lives she has touched and blessed. Saundra was a very resilient woman and continued on as life threw many challenges at her and she persevered with the guidance of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Clarksville Bible Church in Clarksville, MI. Saundra was a very proud Christian and did daily devotionals, and read from one of her many bibles daily. Honoring Saundra's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on December 6, 2014 at the Clarksville Bible Church, 191 S Main St, Clarksville, MI 48815 with a luncheon to follow immediately after. Saundra will finally be laid to rest next to her mother, Mildred in Mount Everest Cemetery in Kalamazoo.
