August 23, 1990 FRED J. WILLIAMS BAY CITY- Fred J.Williams, 93 of Bay City, died Aug. 11. He was born in Fowlerville on May 23, 1897 and was a retired teacher. Williams was superintendent of schools for Portland Public Schools from 1925 to 1944. He later taught in the Pontiac system and moved to Bay City in 1946 where he was Professor of Chemistry at Bay City Junior College In 1961 he became Professor of Chemistry at Delta College until her retired from teaching in 1963 with more than 40 years of teaching service. He married Cara Spaetzel on Aug. 25, 1928. She preceded in death on Dec. 26, 1983. Surviving are two sons, Rodney Williams of Bay City and the Rev. James Williams of Illinois, formerly of Belding; four grandchildren; one sister, Mary Mae Bartig of Webberville. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, a life member of Portland Lodge No. 31 F.& A.M., a life member of the Bay City Consistory, A.A.S.R., a life member of the Michigan State Varsity Alumnae Association, and a life member of the Michigan National Education Associations. Funeal services were held at the Penzien and Steele Funeral Home in Bay City, with interment in Floral Gardens Cemetery.
