Bennett lib@dogsbark.com June 5, 2010, 3:35 am Saranac Advertiser WILLIAMS, CASSIUS: THE ADVERTISER, SARANAC, MI; June 27, 1917, front page: "Found in Grand River - Cash Williams returned from Grand Rapids, Sunday, June 3, and went to the Commercial Hotel, where he boarded. He slept until late Monday, when he got up he was despondent, but as he had been in that condition before, none took him seriously. He left the hotel that evening and that was the last seen of him until Thursday evening, when Fred Pardee discovered his body in a pile of rubbish near where Lake Creek empties into Grand River, west of the bridge. It is probable that he went from the hotel to the river and that his body had been in the river since. The body was taken to the Densmore Undertaking rooms and was buried on Friday afternoon, the service being held at the grave. His wife died some time ago. He leaves five children." No 1910 Ionia Co. Cassius Williams Family found in soundex for US Census. The only two Cassius Williams found were: 1)77 years of age, born in VT, and living in Coloma, Berrien County, with his wife Phebe, age 76, born in NY, #10-96-107. The second one was 38 years of age, living alone in Byron town or twp. in Shiawassee County, #084-82-112. IONIA DAILY SENTINEL, Mich; June 23, 1917, front page: "BODY OF PAINTER FOUND IN RIVER - Saranac, June 2____ _____ Williams, a painter, came ___ Grand Rapids three weeks ago last Sunday, walking all the way. He had been in Grand Rapids ____week or 10 days, and it is ________spent all of his money. Sleeping ____day Monday, he acted strangely ________ evening and about 8 o'clock ____ the hotel where he had made his home ____ the death of his wife a number of years ago. He was not seen again until his body was found in Grand River last night by Fred Pardee, ___ was returning from a fishing trip. He leaves a number of children."
