E. Williams Dead. A Former Resident of Grattan, and Brother of A.M. Williams of This City. Alderman George E. Williams of Ionia, died at 2:30 o’clock Monday afternoon at his home, West Lincoln avenue, in that city, after an extended illness. He had been able to ride out as late as two weeks ago, but had been practically confined to the house since last fall with chronic heart trouble. He was conscious to the last. At the above hour he asked to be moved from his chair to the couch, when he almost instantly expired. Mr. Williams was one of Ionia’s most worthy and respected citizens. He went from Grattan to Ionia about ten years ago and was about 61 years of age. He was a Mason, member of Grattan lodge, F. & A. M., and of the O.E.S. of Ionia. He was also an old soldier but did not belong to the post. For years he has not had the use of one lung, as a result of his experience in the army. He was elected a member of the common council last fall to fill vacancy caused by the resignation of Glenn L. Williams, but ill health had prevented him from attending more than one or two meetings. Many friends will grieve with his family over his death. He leaves his wife and three sons, Fred L., attorney at Cedar Springs, Glenn L., stenographer for the state tax commission, and Frank L., with Hall, the Detroit druggist. The funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. ------------ Smyrna – We received word Tuesday of the death of Geo. Williams of Ionia, a former resident of this place and a pioneer of Otisco township.
