She was born at Grand Rapids, Mich., May 13th, 1852. The same month and year her parents came to Ionia, where they have ever since resided. Fannie’s whole life has been here with us, and she was well known and universally beloved. Possessed of an unusually gay and happy disposition, she was the life and spirit of all the social gatherings of the young, who testified their love and devotion to her during her sickness and came from all portions of the city upon the day of her funeral to pay their last sad tokens of respect and love. At home she was one who sought out gentle deeds to gladden life and her merry ways and winsome presence were the stay and comfort of her parents. With a wit that never intentionally wounded—as cheerful as brilliant—she was the light of the home circle, and brought a new loveliness to life wherever she went. She will be sadly missed by her young companions in every place, at school where her bright intellect mastered many a difficult problem for them; at the social where her innocent fun and frolic added zest to every game; at the church and Sabbath school where her presence ever greeted them; at home the dearest of all places, where she had grown into the hearts of her friends by her unselfish love and kindness to all. Everywhere among us we shall miss her as one whose presence brought pleasure and whose absence a void not to be filled. A sweet maiden, cut off in her blossoming years, she was laid in the grave with streaming eyes, and hands that trembled as they placed her there. In the brightness and beauty of her young life she was gone like a spring violet; tipped by an untimely frost; but she shall live and blossom again in the brighter world above, where beauty never decays, where suffering is not, and where pain and sorrow shall never cloud the bright enjoyment of her gifted nature. Trustfully, we resign her to the keeping of Him whose love shall live and last for aye. Additional Comments: There is a handwritten note on the obituary card that burial was in Oakhill Cemetery.
