Williston, a native Ionian who had lived in Allanson and Detroit before returning to Ionia, died at 9 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Williston had been ill about two years and died in Droste-Ferguson hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born in Ionia and as a youngster moved with his parents to Allanson in northern Michigan and then returned to Ionia. He became identified with the Ionia post office and served as a city carrier for a number of years. He resigned his post office position to enter the hotel business and with S.C.L. Brown purchased the old Bailey house which stood at the corner of Main and Kidd streets on the location occupied by the Ionia theater. The hotel was renamed Brown-Williston. In 1920 Mr. Williston sold out his interest and moved to Detroit where he operated apartment houses, later returning to Ionia. He purchased the Ionia American House which is now known as Look’s hotel and renamed it the Williston hotel after considerable modernization. In 1945 he sold the hotel to Curt Lock of Grand Rapids who since has sold the hotel. During the winters, Mr. and Mrs. Williston have vacationed in Florida and California. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Boynton funeral home. The Rev. Fr. R. J. Bundy will officiate. Surviving are the wife Jeannette Williston and a number of nieces and nephews. The couple had no children. Entombment will be at the Highland Park mausoleum.
