Page 2: "Obituaries - Frances Marie (Shaw) (Simmons) Willits, of Ionia, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2008. She was born on Oct. 28, 1918 in Lake Odessa, the daughter of J. Glenn and Mary (Augst) Shaw. Mrs. Willits was a member of the Berlin Center United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and the Berlin Center Grange. She was a member of the North Berlin Aid Society and was a 4-H Leader for many years. She was a great cook, baker and seamstress who loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Simmons in 1966. In 1967 she married Dr. Clayton Willits and he preceded her in death in 1979. She was also preceded in death by 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Surviving are her children Carl (Karen) Simmons of Ionia, Marilyn Hotchkiss of Saranac, H. Keith (Gail) Simmons of Ionia and Carolyn (Jack) Westmoreland of Charlotte; grandchildren Dan (Cristine) Simmons of Vienna, Ga., Rebecca (Rick) Cannan of Pompano Beach, Fla., Katrina Simmons of Ionia, Douglas (Deb) Hotchkiss of Ionia, Lisa (Myron) Lewis of Bloomington, Ind., Erica (Mark) Rolfe of Ionia, Nicole Simmons of Ionia, Brian Westmoreland of Kalamazoo and Ryan Westmoreland of Charlotte; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 stepdaughters, Priscilla (Jim) Reid of Nashville and Patricia Dale of Tekonsha; 6 step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren, 3 stepgreat-great-grandchildren; special niece, Jean Bennett and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Den Slattery, Pastor at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the Berlin Center United Methodist Church with interment following at Balcom Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time at the church on Saturday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Ionia Area Hospice or to the Berlin Center United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in memory of Mrs. Frances Marie Willits. Earth's ties will soon be served As heaven I enter in." sides his wife, Frances, are two sons, Carl at home, and Keith, serving with United States Navy at Virginia Beach, Va.; two daughters, Mrs Richard Hotchkiss of Berlin townsip and Carolyn at home; one grandson, and a sister, Mrs Harriet Bennett also of Berlin township. The body is at Stone-Kauffman funeral home and will be taken to LeValley church for services Monday, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Earle Stine, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be at Balcom cemetery. A memorial fund has been established and in lieu of flowers, donations for the LeValley Methodist church will be accepted."
