Ionia County News, 21 Aug 1947

John D. Wilson, 81, died at the Ionia Convalescent Home, Monday afternoon, Aug.
18, after an illness of three months.  He was born in Ronald township, February
14, 1866, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Wilson.  He attended Ronald township
schools and taught in the township schools and Palo village for several years.

He then went to Detroit and was employed in the stationery department of the
J.L. Hudson store for 15 or 20 years.  He returned to Ionia 18 years ago, bought
a home at 341 E. Main St., and build the oil station which he operated until
June, 1946.  At that time he sold to Allen Haigh of Detroit.

Funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon from Palo Baptist church and burial
was in Palo cemetery.

Surviving is the widow, the former Laura Wise, of Lancaster, Pena, who has been
in Amherstburg, Ont., the past year.
