July 20, 1933 CITY SUFFERS LOSS IN DEATH OF M. D. WILSON Prominent Man Succumbs Sunday in Blodgett Hospital RITES ARE HELD TUES. AFTERNOON Death came Sunday morning to Myron D. Wilson, 57, in the Blodgett Memorial Hospital, Grand Rapids, following an acute attack of a kidney ailment. “Dee”, as he was more familiarly known, was taken to the hospital for treatment about two weeks ago and after a few days there he returned home, believing his ailment had been successfully treated. He returned to his post in the State Savings Bank a week ago Monday morning but was taken suddenly worse during the day and was returned to the hospital in critical condition the following morning. Mr. Wilson, who for the past 25 years was assistant cashier at the State Savings Bank, was born in Eaton county in 1876, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Wilson. At an early age he came with his parents to Sebewa township where his youth was spent. The family moved to Ionia in 1891. Mr. Wilson was graduated from the Ionia High school with the class of 1893. During his high school career he was prominent in athletics and was a member of the first football team that ever represented the Ionia school. Following his graduation he later became a semi-professional baseball player and was considered by followers of the sport as of major league caliber. Mr. Wilson was an excellent student as well as athlete. After finishing his high school career he became clerk in the Ionia post office and later was employed as clerk in the Thomas A. Carten store here. A quarter of a century ago he entered the employ of the State Savings Bank and during those years he enjoyed a close personal contact with hundreds of Ionia citizens. Aside from his business activities, Dee found time to serve his city as city clerk for several terms and was a member of the charter commission that drafted the present city charter. He was a life member of the Ionia Elks lodge and an early member of the Ionia Country Club. In 1906 he married Miss Mae Elwess, of Ionia. The widow and two daughters, Virginia and Frances, survive him. There are two sisters, Mrs. Laura Dalzell and Miss Lucile Wilson, also a brother, Hugh of Detroit. Another brother, Max, died three years ago this month. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the home, 235 East Washington street. The service of the First Church of Christ Scientist was used. Interment was in Highland Park.
