Dec. 9, 2009 Philip Wilson, age 57, passed away Monday morning, Dec. 7, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was an inspiration to everyone these past few months, never giving up until his body could no longer fight. Philip was born Aug. 19, 1952, to Philip and Gladys (Harter) Wilson. He lived on the family centennial farm until he went to Michigan State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration in 1975. He moved back to the farm and was introduced to Cathy Richmond and they married April 28. 1984. They were blessed with two wonderful sons, Ryan and Matthew. Miho Koizumi, from Japan came into their life and became the daughter they never had. Philip enjoyed being home on the family farm, having a huge garden so he could share his wealth with all the neighbors and friends, go for long walks in the woods with his dog Kip, and loved cutting wood for exercise. Philip was employed with EightCap, Inc. as a Manager of Business Solutions, a Ronald Twp. Volunteer Fire Fighter, a member of Shiloh Community Church and previously served on the Ionia County Board of Commissioners for nine years, Chairman of Ionia County Mental Health Board, Ionia County Economic Development Board, EightCap, Inc., Governing Board and Central Area Michigan Works!, Consortium Workforce Investment Board. He also served as Ionia County Emergency Services Coordinator and a past member of the Ionia Jaycees. Philip was a great friend and has lived always fighting – be it for a better community for all to live – to create career programs to profoundly change the lives of thousands of young adults across America – and without hesitation and in the midst of it all, fighting all odds for years for his very own life. Philip was an inspiration to all and someone most people called a dear friend. We truly do not get many of those in life. Ryan, Matt and Miho are blessed to have this man to call Dad. He was Cathy’s best friend, the man she laughed with, lived with and loved. Philip will be lovingly remembered by his wife Cathy of 25 years, sons Ryan and Matthew and daughter Miho. He is also survived by his sister Gloria Lockey; sister-in-law Donna Sisson; brothers-in-law Ralph (Thelma) Richmond and Ken (Terry) Richmond; many wonderful cousins; aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews and very special friends. Philip was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Elizabeth at birth, in- laws Charles and Betty Richmond and brother-in-law Bill Lockey. The family would like to thank everyone for all of their prayers and words of encouragement these last few months. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Philip’s life will be at Shiloh Community Church, Saturday, Dec. 12 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be Friday from 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. at Shiloh Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the family to help cover medical expenses. Envelopes will be available at the visitation and service.
