John David “Dave” Wilson, 87, of Belding, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2008, at
Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Dave was born Aug. 11, 1921, in Belding, the son of Sumner and Mildred Reed
Wilson.  Dave graduated from Belding High School with the class of 1939.  He
proudly served his country during World War II serving as a medic in the U.S.
Army.  During the war he received the Good Conduct Medal, six Bronze Stars and
one Bronze Arrowhead.  Dave served in Africa, the Middle East, Sicily, Southern
France and Central Europe.  While seldom spoken about, Dave was very proud of
his service to his country.  He was a longtime member of the First
Congregational Church in Belding and the Sheridan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post
5065.  Dave retired after 30 years of service at Extruded Metals and later
served for 20 years with the city of Belding as the code enforcement officer. 
He was a dedicated and loving family man and will be greatly missed.

He was married on Nov. 30, 1945, in Lake Odessa to Verna Faulkner and she
survives along with their daughter and son-in law, Judy and Richie Baiardi; his
grandchildren, Amy Bills, Jennifer and Justin Davis; and three
great-grandchildren, Ashley, Katie and Emily, all of Ocala, Fla.  He was
preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Florence Cornwell, Helen
Murbach and Elizabeth Kellogg.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Congregational Church,
Belding, with Pastor Byron Davey officiating.  Private interment will be in
River Ridge Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the
church.  Memorials may be given to the First Congregational Church, Belding.
