September 21, 1904 IN SPELL OF DESPONDENCY Mrs.Willie Wilson cut throat with Razor AT HOME OF DAVID DAILEY Six Miles West of Village Last Friday Morning-Died at eleven O'clock- Leaves Husband and one Year old Babe A sad tragedy was enacted at the home of David Dailey, early last Friday morning, when Mr.Dailey's daughter, Mrs.Willie Wilson, in a fit of despondency took her own life by cutting her throat with her father's razor. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson were married two years ago and lived on a farm near Ionia, but Mrs.Dailey had been very ill with pneumonia, necessitating the presence of her daughter for a time past. She had been home and Mr.Wilson brought her back on Thursday together with their one year old child, both of them being in poor health. On returning that night she appeared cheerful enough and at about 4 o'clock in the morning she arose saying she was going out doors. Mr.Wilson then told her not to go out on the ground for he feared she would take cold, and received the reply that she would not. She then went to her father's room and asked for his razor saying that she wanted it to trim a troublesome corn. He told her it was int he cupboard, not thinking for a minute she meant to harm herself with it. About an hour later, her husband became alarmed because she did not return and arose to look for her. He asked the nurse but she had not noticed that Mrs.Wilson had not retuned to her room. He then began his search and as he opened the door leading to the back porch was horrified to see his wife lying in a pool of blood as his very feet, with her throat cut almost from ear to ear. She tied to speak but her voice failed to leave her lips, and she fell back unconscious. He tried to move her but found that it only started the wound to bleeding afresh. She was covered up with quilts until kind neighbors hurriedly telephoned for medical aid and Drs.Day and Horner were soon on the scene to do all that could be done in a case of this kind, but she passed away at 11 o'clock. The only reason that can be suggested for the rash act of Mrs.Wilson, is that she was despondent over the ill-health of herself and babe and the continued case of her mother's serious illness. There had been no family troubles and neighbors testify that a more devoted man and wife never lived than Mr. and Mrs.Wilson. She was only 20 years old at the time of her death, and it is probable that the strain on her extremely nervous nature made her temporarily insane and she chose this course of relieving her mind of the strain. The family have the sympathy of the community in their steak of ill-luck of the past few weeks. The saddest feature of the tragedy is that the mother has not heard the news and it will probably be some time before she will be told. She is convalescent from a serous illness and being of a very nervous temperament it is feared the intelligence would result fatally. For this reason the funeral was of necessity be at the home of a neighbor, Mr.Thomas, Sunday Additional Comments: Lakeside Cem.#2-298 File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/w/wilson44437nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 3.6 Kb
