Mrs. Chancey M. Hubbard, 79, resident of Cook’s Corners for 68 years, died at 
her home Monday night about 11:00 o’clock.  Miss Althea Wilson, daughter of 
Mr. and Mrs. David Wilson, was born in Fairplains township, September 17, 
1860, and came to Cook’s Corners in 1868.  Prior to her marriage she taught 
school at the Brink, Seeley, Cook’s Corners and Dye schools, among her pupils 
being William Wilson, Clyde Cooper, Ernie Benton, Alfred and Charles Locke, 
and other prominent residents of this vicinity.

She was married to Chancey M. Hubbard at Saranac at the home of Rev. W. Judd, 
November 9, 1884, the couple living at Orleans for two years, then at Marshall 
one year, and returning to Cook’s Corners on Mr. Hubbard’s birthday, February 
10, 1888, to remain there the following 51 years of her life.  She was 
secretary-treasurer of Shafton Arbor, of the Gleaners for 38 years, the 
organization presenting her with a gold watch after 25 years of faithful 
service.

Funeral services will be held at the Fales funeral home in Belding, Friday 
afternoon at 2:30, Rev. Hubert S. Ellis officiating, and burial will be in 
Otisco cemetery.

Survivors are: the husband, C. M. Hubbard; two daughters, Mrs. Edward Reeves 
of Cook’s Corners, Mrs. Frank Belding of Grand Rapids; one son, Frank C. 
Hubbard of Belding; four grandchildren, Mrs. Robert Noddins of Orleans, Milan 
and Howard Reeves of Smyrna, and Miss Marian Reeves of Belding; three great-
grandchildren, Loran and Clara Noddins, children of Mr. and Mrs. Robert 
Noddins of Orleans, and Russell Reeves, son of Mr. and Mrs. Milan Reeves of 
Smyrna.
