Winchell, 625 East Lafayette street, was the son of the Lemuel and Sarah Winchell and was born in Milton, Saratoga county, N.Y., Sept. 15, 1863. He felt peacefully asleep as the hands pointed the hour of 12 noon, May 17. His parents came to Michigan when he was four years of age and he received his education in the Ionia schools, being a graduate of the class of 1880, and finishing with a course at the Poucher Business college. Soon after he left for the far west spending 15 years traveling throughout the mountain states, principally the states of Oregon and California. He was an encyclopedia of knowledge and delighted to impart to others the wonders he had seen. He was married to Alice M. Young June 5, 1901, and she survives him. He leaves a brother, Adon Winchell, a sister, Mrs. Ida Peer of this city and many relatives among the Winchell, Tyler and Grieves families, with a host of true and loyal friends. He was a member of the Merchants’ [unreadable] Reserve in the Royal Arcanum. The funeral service was held at his late residence Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, the services being conducted by the Rev. E.E. Branch. Mrs. Colwell and Mrs. Beck sang. The bearers were chosen from the orders to which he belonged and were J.C. Beattie, Ira Cotton, G.F. Brown and M. M. McGeary. Interment was in Highland Park cemetery.
