Jan. 27, 2010 Born March 18, 1926 in Clinton County, Michigan to the Late Edwin and Myrtie Vinegar, Paul Winegar passed away ager a short illness on January 25, 2010, at the age of 83. He was preceded in his death by his brothers, Donald and William and by his sisters, Nina, Esther and infant Mary. Paul was the devoted husband of Mary Margaret, his first wife who passed away in 1996, and of his second wife, Patricia, who survives him. His love and care for them remains an inspiration for his sons, Ray (Elfreda), Stephen (Gale) and Joseph (Karen Gipson) Winegar; for his daughters-in-law, Michele Winegar and Mary Winegar; and for Patricia’s children, Jim (Mirla) Moses, Kathy Hurl and Margaret (Tony) Droste. He was a proud veteran of WWII and Korea, and a member of the Lansing and Portland VFW. He built and successfully managed Paul’s Colorama in Lansing until 1970 and retired 25 years later as a real estate broker. His leadership was exemplified by his service of 20 or more years as a member of the board of the Gabriels Credit Union, a volunteer in the Boy Scouts of America for which he received the St. George Award, and as a member of the Resurrection St. Vincent DePaul Society for which he served one term as president. Paul enjoyed a series of outdoor sports including sailing, running, tennis, walking and golf, and he loved the fellowship of those with whom he played. He welcomed all, and was persistently loyal in his relationships. He faced the world with optimism and abiding faith; he ministered to the needs of the young, the old, the sick and the poor. Though he touched us with his tenderness and quiet joy, he sang his hymns right out loud. He is survived in the fond hearts of his grandchildren, Jeff, Paul, (Courtney), Erin, Laura, Thomas, Kathleen, Patrick, Megan and Ben as well as in those of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of his second marriage, Ceclia, Jennifer, Sarah, James Joseph, Brandy, Tish, Tycee, James Anthony, Lamar, Alana, Ciara and Tyler. And he survives in his lifetime example to us that the opportunity to take care of others is every bit as much a gift as is the wide smile feeling of sinking a 12 foot putt for par on a fresh spring day. A Mass of Christian burial will take place Friday, January 29, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Resurrection. Visitation will be at Gorsline Runciman Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Ave., 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday January 28, 2010. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to Resurrection St. Vincent de Paul Society (1531 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI 48912) or the Alzheimer’s Association (P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090- 6011).
