LONG LIFE OF SERVICE TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS ONE OF ODESSA'S PIONEERS. ---------- Mrs. J. A. Winey, one of the faithful Christian pioneers of Odessa township passed to her reward Friday, May 14, completing a life of service few could equal. Her life was a faithful round of duties to her church, her family and her friends, and every one speaks of her beautiful character, especially in the years of her greatest usefulness. ----------- OBITUARY Mary H. Mohler was born in Dark County, Ohio, April 19, 1840, and departed this life on May 14, 1920 at the age of 80 years and 26 days. On December 12, 1861 she was united in marriage to Josiah G. Winey. Immediately after their marriage they moved to Union City, Ind., and in 1868 they came to Ionia County and settled in the woods and began the task of carving out for themselves a home. This they did and continued to live on the old homestead unit the Lord took her home. To this union were born nine children, as follow: Elmer, David, John, William, Ira, Mrs. C. I. Heney, Mrs. D. L. Moon, Mrs. H. J. Goossen and Mrs. H. Monroe. All of the above children, with a sister, eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild remain to share with each other the loss of an affectionate sister and mother. In 1862 Sister Winey was baptized and received into the German Baptist Brethren church. When the division the church came, Sister Winey took her stand with the part known as the "Brethren" and who recognized no authority but the word of God. She thus continued faithful until the Master's call. Her greatest delight was the House of God and her place was seldom vacant. Her life was a living example of explicit and complete obedience to the Gospel. She had a great concern for her children, loved to see them do well and live right. As a companion she was patient and gentle, seeking at all times to live a clean, holy and righteous life before God and man. Her life was indeed virtuous. The family circle has been broken for the second time. Her faithful companion, Rev. J. G. Winey departing this life on June 26, 1916, at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 22 ays. "Will the circle be unbroken over there?" Sister Winey in gone, gone to the beautiful land of somewhere, that we shall all reach when the Sun goeth down--gone to eat beautiful shore to sing the song of Moses and the Lamb through endless ages--gone where no chilling storms or winters blasts shall disturb her rest on the Banks of Eternal Peace. The funeral was held at the Progressive Brethren church Tuesday at 11 o'clock, the pastor, Rev. M. V. Garrison officiating. Burial was at Lakeside cemetery.
