May Eva was born January 4, 1899 in Grandville, Richmond, VA. Daughter of Archibald and Emily Velzy. Childhood in VA 1907 to 1911. Graduated from Lowell, MI High School in 1917. She taught in Vergennes & Lowell Twp's in Kent County. Spent Summer School at Michigan State Normal at Ypsilanti. Operated a dress making store in Grand Rapids before her marriage. Married Carl L. Wingeier April 6, 1921. He died January 13, 1974. Was a member of Palo United Methodist church since 1928, where she taught school, was the organist for 10 years & member of the United Methodist Women. Was District Chairman of Christian social relations for the UMW from 1940 to 1950. Won many prizes for her cakes at the Ionia free fair & Detroit State Fair. Survived by four daughters and three son-in-laws, 18 grandchildren, 43 great- grandchildren & four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services Monday at 11 a.m at Greenville First united Methodist Church, with Rev. Dr. Harry R. Johnson & Rev. Connie Shatz officiating. Burial at Palo Cemetery. Visitation on Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. at Hurst Funeral Home in Greenville.
