Winright, Sr., 78, of Marion, formerly of Lyons, passed away Feb. 21, 2002 at the Ionia County Memorial Hospital. He was born on Oct. 7, 1923 in Portland, the son of James and Leona (Crandell) Winright. Carl married the former Thelma Zayaz on Feb. 7, 1948. He was a member of the Lyons VFW. He was very involved with antique engines in Lyons. He loved tractors and he liked to work on engines in his garage. He was an avid deer hunter. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Thelma “Midge”; two sons, Roger Winright of Howard City and Ken (Sue) Winright of Lyons; four grandchildren, Leona Crysler, Tami Winright, Andy Winright and Roger Winright Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Alister, Logan and Jaden; and one sister, Renee (Fred) Hale of Ionia. Carl was preceded in death by his son, Carl Jr. on Feb. 25, 2000. According to Carl’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday at the Cook Funeral Home in Ionia with Pastor Jamey Nichols of the Shiloh Community Church officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday at the Rich Street Chapel of Cook Funeral Home.
