March 24, 1919 FIRST WHITE CHILD BORN IN IONIA DEAD Eugene E. Winsor, the first white child born in Ionia, died suddenly Saturday in Grand Rapids at the age of nearly 86. His father was Darius Winsor, who with his family was one of the five of the original Dexter colony, who came in 1833, and it was in August of that year that Eugene was born. When Eugene was 3 months old he was taken by his parents by overland stage to Grand Rapids, of which city he has been a life-long resident, except for a few years spent in the south during the Civil war, throughout which Mr. Dexter held a clerical position in one of the southern states. Mr. Winsor was one of the oldest Masons in Grand Rapids, and a life member of the Shriners and Knights Templar. He has been a visitor to Ionia many times during the past years. He leaves a wife, but no other relatives.
