The death of Jacob Wirtz, at 7:10 o’clock on Friday evening, closed the married life of a couple more advanced in years than any other in the city probably - Mr. Wirtz was 82 years old last July, and Mrs. Wirtz will be 81 next month. Their fifty-second marriage anniversary took place on January 6th last. Mr. Wirtz’ health had been failing for several years, but his serious illness began only a week ago, since when he has failed fast. He was born in Bendorf, Germany, and came to this country in 1883, locating immediately in Ionia. Mr. and Mrs. Wirtz had seven children, only Frank M. Wirtz of this city now surviving. Three were buried in the old country, and three others died in America. There are five grandchildren, children of Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Wirtz. Two sisters are still living in Germany. Mr. Wirtz has dropped all active work for the past five years, and he and his wife have made their home with their children, Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Wirtz. The funeral of Jacob Wirtz was held on Monday at 9:00 o’clock at the chapel of SS. Peter and Paul, Rev. H.D. McCarthy celebrating the Requiem Mass. The bearers were: Anthony Scully, Daniel Wittiak, Roman Slowinski and Frank Meleski. Present from out of town were Mrs. Lizzie Wendell of Lansing, Mrs. Termes, Mrs. Adam Endres and Charles Dillenbeck of Grand Rapids.
