RUTH BENEDICT WITMAR
Ruth Whitmar, 50, of St. Louis died in the Sparrow Hospital Monday, September 16.

Mrs. Witmar was injured Wednesday afternoon in a car accident at the intersection of
Hawley Highway and Sayles Road.

She was born January 19, 1907, to Lee and Ella Benedict, in Lyons. She graduated
from Lyons High School and Ionia County Normal and attended Mt. Pleasant Teachers
College.

She was married to Charles Witmar on June 14, 1931, in Lyons. They lived in Lansing
four years and 10 years in Lyons and nine years in Muir.  For the past three years they
have been houseparents at the Michigan Regular Baptist Children's Home in St. Louis.

Mrs. Witmar was a member of the St. Louis Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Charles; her mother, Mrs. Lee Benedict of Lyons; one
brother, Ferris Benedict, of Lansing; four sisters, Mrs. Otto C. Benjamin, of Grand
Rapids, Mrs. Elton Tubbs, of Lansing, Mrs. Clarence Lehnhardt, of Bay City, and Miss Mabel 
Benedict, of Lansing.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, September 18, at 3:00 o'clock at the Lyons
Baptist Church, with Rev. Charles Vermilyea, pastor of the St. Louis Baptist church,
officiating.

Interment was in the Portland cemetery.
