Ionia Sentinel – Tuesday, 19 September 1939
Karl F. Witt, 89, died Monday afternoon, September 18, after a short illness 
at the home of his niece, Mrs. William Heitman, 501 Jones Street, where he 
resided for several years.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Witt, he was born November 22, 1849 at 
Neuenkin, Germany.  He was married April 1, 1876 in Germany to Miss Caroline 
Pagel who preceded him in death in 1917.  He came to the United States in 1894 
and made his home then in Ionia where he was employed at the Pere Marquette 
car shops for a number of years.  Mr. Witt was a member of the St. Johns 
Evangelical Lutheran church and a charter member of the LBM.

Funeral services will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Heitman of 
501 Jones Street Wednesday afternoon at 2:30.  The body will remain at the 
Stone funeral home until 10 a.m. Wednesday when it will be moved to the 
Heitman residence.
