Hotchkiss, aged 70, was born August 24, 1865 on a farm in Keene township. She spent practically all her life in Otisco township. She passed away December 5, 1935. She was united in marriage March 8, 1880 to Eli Witt. To their union was born three children: Leonard Witt of Marysville, Washington; Mrs. Laila Taylor of Belding, and Mrs. Ethel Taylor, who passed away several years ago. Besides their own family they raised two grandchildren, Mrs. Frances Doty, near Orleans, and Erving Taylor of Belding. As a mother, wife and neighbor she was good, kind and generous. Having had ill health and suffered for years she clung to life desiring to make a home and raise the family. Besides the son, daughter and two grandchildren she also leaves another granddaughter, Mrs. Virginia Chickering, two great grandchildren, Gordon and Leslie Doty, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. The funeral was held from the Fitzjohn funeral home Monday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. H. S. Ellis officiating, and burial was in River Ridge cemetery. The pall bearers were Ernest and Fred Benton, Albert Hanson, Otis Seeley, Forest Force and Will Leary. Those from a distance to attend were Bert and Glenn Mooney of Detroit, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Higgins of Keene, Mrs. Anna Hotchkiss of Crystal and Mrs. Ethel Hill and son of Bellaire.
